Abstract

Introduction: irreversible hydrocolloids are the most used to obtain antagonist models, orthodontic models and various working models in dental practice, due to their low price, easy handling and excellent clinical results when handled correctly. Objective: to evaluate whether the addition of liquid disinfectants can eliminate the disinfection step without producing changes in the gelation time or distortions in the reproduction of detail in the Tropicalgin alginate samples. Method: an experimental, prospective, longitudinal analytical (comparative) study was carried out on 32 alginate samples mixed with distilled water, 2% chlorhexidine and ozonated water. The data obtained from both the detailed reproduction measurement and the gelation time were organized in a database in the SPSS v.22 program in Spanish. Results: the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis is accepted, the statement of which is: the mixture of irreversible hydrocolloid impression materials with 2% chlorhexidine and ozonized water will affect the gelation time and reproduction of detail of said material. There was a significant difference in the two evaluated properties of the irreversible hydrocolloid impression materials. Conclusions: the results were significant in dimensional stability and gelation time in relation to the Kruskal-Wallis test where significance p =0 was estimated in the two variables, which being less than the test significance (95% reliability), it was concluded that there is a difference in the reproduction of detail, as well as in the gelation time for the three groups.
