Follow-up of alcoholic patients in Psychotherapy

Abstract

A cross - sectional descriptive study was carried out in patients assisted in the group psychotherapy of the Community Center of Mental Health of the central area of Guantánamo municipality during 2014-2016, with the objective of identifying the characteristics of the alcoholic disease in these patients. The sample was of 140 patients, treated in consultation of the Community Center of Mental Health. The data were obtained from the medical records, interviewed patients and relatives. Prevalence was the male sex, a divorced civil status, with a longer time of ingestion of the toxicant, between 1 and 5 years. The alcohol dependence syndrome appears in 62.8 % of the patients, while 37.2 % have a harmful consumption with relapses, predominantly between the ages of 31-50 years, standing out in the time of treatment and abstinence the group of Plus 10 years of treatment. As therapy was used a group psychotherapy of the cognitive-behavioral type, it was shown that alcohol withdrawal is achieved with this type of therapy.
