Automedicación en el personal de enfermería: una revisión sistemática

Introducción: la automedicación es práctica de utilizar medicamentos sin la supervisión de un profesional de la salud.
Objetivo: analizar las implicaciones en la salud de la automedicación en el personal de enfermería mediante una revisión sistemática de evidencia disponible.
Método: se realizó una revisión sistemática sobre automedicación en el personal de enfermería, basada en la evidencia científica publicada en bases de datos indexadas como PubMed, Google Académico, Trip Medical Database y British Medical Journal (BMJ), en el periodo de 2019-2024. La revisión sistemática siguió una serie de pasos metodológicos rigurosos que se plantean en la declaración PRIAUTOMEDICACIÓN 2020, se tuvieron en cuenta criterios de inclusión y exclusión.
Resultados: la prevalencia de la automedicación con antibióticos varió del 7,3 % al 85,59 %, con una prevalencia general del 42,64 %. Las tasas de prevalencia difirieron considerablemente entre países y sujetos de estudio. El resfriado común, dolor de garganta, fiebre, enfermedades del tracto gastrointestinal y enfermedades respiratorias fueron las enfermedades comunes de automedicación. El antibiótico más usado para la automedicación fue la amoxicilina, seguida de los macrólidos (azitromicina), fluoroquinolonas (ciprofloxacino), cefalosporinas y metronidazol.
Conclusiones: existen distintos tipos de vías para comunicarle a la población, los efectos graves que puede producir la automedicación, así como las exigencias del gobierno, dirección de Salud Pública, a través de los farmacéuticos, trabajadores sociales, comunicadores, para erradicar el desafío de la automedicación en esta región.
